FIFA has officially announced 14 candidates for The Best Men’s Player 2022 award.

A 14-player shortlist for the Best Men’s Player award in 2022 has been announced by FIFA.

According to the announcement made by the world football governing body, this year’s award will be given based on performances from the start of the 2021/22 season to the end of the 2022 World Cup.

Lionel Messi is perhaps the most prominent name on the shortlist after leading Argentina to victory in Qatar. In the previous year’s award, he came in second place to Robert Lewandowski, who has also been nominated once more.

Julian Alvarez of Manchester City has been nominated for The Best accolade, joining Messi as members of Argentina’s team. Kevin De Bruyne and Erling Haaland, the forward’s clubmates, are also included on the shortlist.

Only Mohamed Salah of Liverpool, who plays his club football in England, is another nominee; Sadio Mane, a former teammate who is now a member of Bayern Munich, is also on the short list.

Along with Messi, PSG’s Kylian Mbappe, Neymar, and Achraf Hakimi have also received nominations for their outstanding play.

Three players from Real Madrid, the reigning European champions, have made the shortlist: Luka Modric, Vinicius Junior, and Ballon d’Or winner Karim Benzema.

Jude Bellingham, a midfielder for Borussia Dortmund and England, is the youngest contender at 19 years old.

Four groups can vote for the award: media representatives, national team captains, national team coaches, and fan votes. 25% of all votes will go to each category.
